Lego are set to release a new line of female scientist figurines entitled 'Research Institute.' The figures will be a first for the company after years of criticism for pandering to gender stereotypes.
However, the development has not been praised by all feminists - Helen Czerski wrote for The Guardian that the imposition of stereotypes is potentially harmful:
"Lego...has produced a toy range that has traditional alpha male heroes and traditional helpless (bossy) females. That is undoubtedly damaging to both young boys and young girls, and also to the future of society."
Figures to be featured in the line include a chemist, an astronomer and a paleontologist; all complete with equipment.
