The latest recorded tapes from Anglo Irish Bank reveal the moments that its senior executives first considered having to ask the Central Bank for state aid.

The tapes, published intoday's Sunday Independent reveal the then CEO David Drumm considering having a conversation "with our buddies on Dame Street".

The conversation was to discuss the continued flow of money out of Anglo, and the possibility of needing outside help to stay afloat.

These recorded conversations date from the time when the bank's "burn date" - the amount the bank was losing each day - was between half a billion and one billion euro.

David Drumm and the bank's director of treasury John Bowe are heard discussing how many days of losses the bank could sustain before running out of cash altogether.

Bowe is heard assuring Drumm that the losses would slow down after a weekend break - but the recording ends with a discussion about approaching the CEntral Bank to discuss getting cash under the State's blanket guarantee.

Mr Drumm is also heard referring the cash available from the central bank - who are described in less than respectful language.
