There were sad scenes in the rural village of Kilmoganny in Kilkenny earlier as hundreds of mourners paid their respects to Mairead Moran (26).

She was stabbed to death at her workplace in the Market Cross shopping centre last Thursday evening.

Her funeral took place at St. Eoghans Church this afternoon. 

Shane Smyth (27) of McGuinness House, Evans Lane, Kilkenny City appeared in court on Saturday charged with her murder.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court this Friday.

Chief celebrant Fr. Nicholas Flavin said earlier her family is devastated.

These locals told Beat 102-103 the community has been rocked by the incident.
