A man (39) has appeared in court charged in connection with a fire in Co Kildare on Tuesday.

Daragh Ward of 66 Millfield Manor has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.

Mr Ward is charged with doing damage to a house at Millfield Manor under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He appeared in Dublin District Court this afternoon dressed in a black fleece hoodie.

Detective Maeve Ward of Newbridge garda station gave evidence of arrest charge and caution yesterday.

The accused made no reply.

Detective Ward applied to have the accused remanded in custody to appear in court again next Wednesday April 8th at 10:30am.

No bail application was made.

A lawyer for Mr Ward asked that he get appropriate medical and psychiatric attention, to which Judge Grainne O'Neill agreed.

An application for legal aid will be made at a later stage.

Mr Ward has been remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.
