The jury in the trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank officials has retired to consider its verdict.

No decision was reached after a first day of deliberations at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today.

Judge Patrick McCartan told jurors this morning that they must leave all ‘hard views’ about Anglo and the events of the past aside when considering their verdict.

He told the five women and six men of the jury that Anglo Irish Bank itself is not on trial.

Judge Patrick McCartan is advising the 11 jurors on points of law before they start to consider their verdicts on 67-year-old Bernard Daly of Collins Avenue West in Dublin; 62-year-old Aoife Maguire of Rothe Abbey, South Circular Road, Kilmainham and 56-year-old Tiarnan O’Mahoney of Glen Pines, Enniskerry in Co Wicklow.

They deny all charges of trying to hide accounts connected to former chair Sean FitzPatrick from the Revenue Commissioners between 2003 and 2004.

Deliberations will resume tomorrow morning at 10.30am.
