Tánaiste Simon Coveney will meet the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland this morning.

Julian Smith was appointed to replace Karen Bradley in Boris Johnson's new cabinet.

Mr Smith and the Tánaiste will discuss the progress made in all-party talks to re-establish the Stormont executive that have been under way for 12 weeks.

The number of child-pornography court cases have increased by 250% over the past three years.

In 2015, the DPP directed 22 cases for prosecution relating to accessing child-porn - but that rose to 78 last year.

According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act, a further 49 cases have been directed this year.

An Irish man who was extradited to the US has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in operating the Silk Road website.

31-year-old Gary Davis from Kilpedder in Co Wicklow had pleaded guilty to narcotics conspiracy in October last year.

He has also been ordered to serve three years of supervised release and to forfeit $25,000.

A protest's being held at a Dublin DART station later over access for wheelchair-users.

The demonstration at Clontarf station is being organised by 'DART Access for All', and aims to highlight what it says are regular issues with lifts being out of order at stops.

The Cork man who faced deportation from the US has been reunited with his family.

Keith Byrne was released from prison last night and returned home to his wife and children in Philadelphia.

He overstayed the visa he used to enter the country in 2007, and was arrested recently by immigration officials.

On Wednesday, however, a US federal judge ordered that he be released from prison and have his deportation order frozen.
