The judge in Bank of Ireland's trespass case against solicitor Brian O'Donnell says he will deliver his judgment this week.

Last week, Mr Justice Brian McGovern deferred his judgment - after hearing arguments from both sides of the legal battle over the Gorse Hill house in Killiney, south Dublin.

Mr O'Donnell - who owes Bank of Ireland more than €70 million - has also asked for permission to cross-examine the bank and the receiver in the case.

Mr O'Donnell failed to leave his South Dublin home last week, despite the passing of a deadline to do so.

On Thursday, Mr O'Donnell told the court he has had a right to residence at Gorse Hill since 2000, and that the bank was aware of this.

Representatives for Bank of Ireland said there is no 'legal basis' for Mr O'Donnell's "Walter Mitty" claim to be allowed to stay at the mansion.

Mr O'Donnell - who was representing himself in court - also had an application to have the judge recuse himself from the case rejected.

The solicitor told the court that 65 journalists were camped outside the house at the centre of the dispute on the Vico Road, and that the situation was "an absolute circus". He said gardaí have had to do drive-bys to protect the family.
