Movember is the leading charity spearheading the drive to change the face of men's health. This November, the organisation is urging people to take action, open the conversation about mental health and physically check yourself. If something isn't right – physically or mentally – don't ignore it.

Movember recently released figures that show nearly 60% of men admit to very rarely or never speaking about their mental health. It's a sad fact that in 2021, a man dies by suicide every minute across the globe, with males accounting for 75% of all suicides.

From a physical health standpoint, the statistics are equally as startling with unchecked prostate cancer rates now set to double over the next 15 years. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men aged 15-39 years of age.

That is why Movember Ireland is calling on all of the Mo Bros and Mo Sisters across the country to join the movement this November, address the health crisis men are facing and stop our fathers, partners, brothers and friends dying too young.

How to get involved in Movember 2021

To take part in Movember, you'll firstly need to sign up on Movember.com and then you can choose how you'd like to take part. The main goal remains the same no matter how you participate – raise awareness and funds, and start important conversations with your families, friends and loved ones.

Here are all the ways you can participate:

  • Grow a Mo: Patchy, lopsided, itchy or epic – whatever Mo you grow this Movember, your face will raise funds and awareness for men’s health.
  • Move for Movember: Commit to running or walking 60km over the month, at your own pace. That’s 60km for the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world.
  • Host a Mo event: Rally a crew and do something fun and easy. Hosting is all about having a good time for a good cause.
  • Mo your own way: Create your own challenge – it can be anything. A gruelling test of physical endurance or something else entirely. Your efforts will help contribute to changing the face of men’s health.

On average, men are dying 6 years earlier than women. Movember wants to reduce the number of premature deaths among males by 25% in the next 9 years. For this year, the organisation has announced funding for 34 separate projects that will support the mental health and wellbeing of men and boys.

Since its creation in Australia in 2003 where 30 people took part, Movember has garnered a huge following worldwide, counting 6 million participants in its campaigns to date. This has resulted in millions of men in Ireland and abroad being able to access programs that have genuinely helped change and save their lives. To date, the organisation has funded more than 1,250 health projects across 23 countries over the last 18 years and has no intention of stopping there.

Without the Mo Bros and Mo Sisters taking part every year and starting those conversations, none of this would have been possible.
