Socialist MEP Paul Murphy is calling for the job-bridge scheme to be phased out.

The government's intern programme has come under fire again following a protest at Advance Pitstop this afternoon.

The 'Scambridge' campaign has accused the company of abusing the scheme as it seeks 28 interns to work as sales fitters. 

MEP Paul Murphy says we need to see the government invest in real training, and real jobs:

“There should be an obligation on the employer, at the end of the scheme, to take on the person who has done the job-bridge, in a proper employment, or to prove why they’re not able to do that. In the medium term we think the scheme should be phased out. Everybody who’s doing it should be entitled to complete it if they want, but it should be replaced by a real jobs scheme, which means investment in real training where people get qualifications at the end of it and, most importantly, investment in jobs.”
