British actress Joanna Lumley will have a race named in her honour at The Curragh Racecourse this year.

The 'Absolutely Fabulous' actress, who celebrates her 70th birthday this year, will be the Curragh's special guest on the day.

She will make the presentation of trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey of the race that includes her name.

On the news, Ms Lumley said: "In all my wildest dreams I could never imagine that one day a race would be named after me - and, moreover, for that race to be at the legendary Curragh Racecourse".

"I am thrilled and proud in equal measure and cannot wait for this fabulous day to arrive".

Ms Lumley has enjoyed huge success on stage and screen since her first major role as Purdey in 'The New Avengers'.

In recent times, she is best known as Patsy Stone in the BBC TV show 'Absolutely Fabulous' - and will reprise the role in a film version, which is due for release this summer.
