Island voting for the Local and European elections gets underway today.

Voters off the coast of Donegal South West, Mayo and Galway West will head to the polls to have their say. Polling stations on the mainland open tomorrow morning from 7am-10pm.

Meanwhile, voting begins across Europe this morning in the elections to the new European Parliament.

Voters in the UK and the Netherlands are the first to head to the polls, with Ireland and the Czech Republic voting tomorrow.

The remaining 24 members states will vote over Saturday and Sunday with results being declared on Sunday night.

An estimated 350 million people are eligible to vote in the European elections across all 28 EU member states.
