With the good weather continuing, should workers resign themselves to sweating the days away in silent misery, or can they get away with shorts in the office?
Fashion stylist and journalist Laura Mullett told Moncrieff that more casual styles might be a bit of a no-no, but that doesn’t mean people have to stick to trousers.
“So, board shorts are going for a slightly surfer aesthetic, but I think when it comes to the workplace, it’s not necessarily the vibe – so kind of cargo or really casual shorts [are out],” she said.
“If you look at chino shorts, smart tailored shorts that look like a cropped trouser, they need to be a respectable length.
“Let’s say if you’re standing up straight and you’ve got your arms down by your sides, for men usually it’s better if your shorts don’t rise above your fingertips.
“So that’s kind of a good guide – we're not going for hot pants in the workplace.”
Ms Mullett also recommended being conscious about the fabric and colour of shorts so they blend in even further.
