An Irishman has died following an accident in Italy.

It is reported that the man in his 20s fell from a balcony in Naples.

This incident happened over the weekend when the victim (24), believed to be from Sandycove, fell from a balcony at an apartment in Naples.

The young man had been living in the city and working as an English teacher.

It is understood he initially survived the fall but later died of his injuries.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is providing consular assistance to his family.
