The man continues to assist police with their inquiries.

The victim, David Walsh, is understood to have been originally from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

New South Wales Police Force is working with the Irish Consulate in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a home on Watson Road, Padstow in the early hours of Saturday, after reports of a fight involving a number of people.

They found a 29-year-old man – who is an Irish national – critically injured with a stab wound to his neck.

Despite efforts by police and New South Wales Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.
