The Vintners’ Federation (VFI), which represents most of the country’s public houses, says its members expect to generate up to 5,000 more seasonal jobs than usual this summer due to increased tourism and continued economic growth.

Irish pubs generate an additional 12,000 seasonal jobs over the average summer and this is expected to rise to 17,000 over the coming months.

Business is likely to be helped by Ireland's participation in Euro 2016 - and an increase in 'staycations' as Irish people opt to holiday in Ireland.

The VFI has over 4,000 members, the 43rd annual conference of the Federation is underway in Wexford town, it will end tomorrow (Wednesday, May 11th).

The group has raised concerns about increases in the cost of insurance, commercial and water rates and, "other compliance and regulatory impositions facing publicans and other small business owners in Ireland."

It is also calling for the new Government to reduce excise duty in Ireland.
