An Irish man has been killed in Mozambique.

It is understood the man from Kilcully in Co. Cork died in the last 2 days.

He was on working on a project for the engineering firm, Kentz.

In a statment this afternoon Kentz confirmed the death of the Irish man.

The company said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy and expressed its condolences with the family of the man who died.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the man's family.

The Irish embassy in Maputo is also liasing with his family.
