Last night at the very widely publicised keynote event, Apple announced its new payment service Apple Pay, a new digital service that the company calls “an entirely new payment process.”

The new payments system will integrate with the Passbook launched on the last update, iOS7 and will allow people to make payments by holding their phone near a sensor.

According to Fortune, the new system will basically attempt to bypass the need for credit cards by allowing payments to be made via your phone securely. Apple will apparently not have access to the data which will be stored privately on your phone.

Major retailers in the US have already signed up for the new payment system including Bloomingdale’s, Disney, Macy’s, McDonald’s, Sephora, Staples, Subway, Walgreens and Whole Foods Market.

However, buried within that news was the announcement that one of the companies involved with the payment system would be Irish company Stripe.

Stripe powers some of the leading apps in the mobile economy like Instacart,Postmates and DoorDash.

The company made the announcement on their website stating: "Today, we're adding support for Apple Pay. Apple Pay facilitates frictionless credit card payments on iOS devices, eliminating the need for any manual entry by the customer. Credit card details are not stored on the device or by Apple, and payments are authorized with the TouchID sensor."

Apple Pay will launch in October but Stripe are setting up tests for apps who would like to use the technology. This could possibly revolutionise how payments will be made in the future.
