  • Current Affairs and Culture
  • Business and Technology
  • Other/Miscellaneous

The category winners will qualify for the final to find the top three student podcasts in Ireland. Submission of entries will open for only one week, from 1st to 7th April 2019.

Each podcast submission must be no longer than 30 minutes in duration.

Mentorship from Newstalk and Off The Ball producers and an audio production equipment package worth €400 will be among the prizes for the overall winner.

The runners-up will be awarded with podcasting equipment that will set them up to build a successful career in media.

Managing Director of Off The Ball, Ger Gilroy, said: “We are looking to finding the next wave of Ireland’s brightest broadcasters.

"Podcasts have been on the upswing in popularity in the past few years and this has given rise to a new tribe of talent covering everything from social issues to sport.

"The Off The Ball team are looking forward to mentoring the winner and maybe getting some tips ourselves along the way!”

Operations Director at Newstalk, Chris Doyle, said: “Digital audio is being created, shared and listened to by over 1 million people every week in Ireland so competitions like these are important in supporting up-and-coming talent in this space.

"We are delighted to be involved and best of luck to all the students who take part.”

Cáit Monaghan, EY’s Student Recruitment Manager, said: “We at Ernst and Young are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring Speakeasy in launching the country’s first national student podcast competition, YAP Ireland.

"After launching our own internal EY podcast series last year, our advice for anyone interested in this competition is to give it your best shot and see where it can take you!”
