Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery at a bookmakers shop in south Dublin last night.

It happened on Sundrive Road at around 8:40pm when two men, one believed to be armed with a shotgun, entered the premises.

They gained access to the area behind the counter, and threatened and assaulted staff - before fleeing the scene with an amount of cash.

It is understood the first man was wearing a red coloured hoodie top, grey tracksuit bottoms, black gloves and was carrying a green plastic shopping bag.

The second man is described as being of heavy build - and was wearing a grey coloured Adidas hoodie top and a balaclava.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
