An investigation is underway after a pipe bomb was found outside a house in Brownstown in Co Kildare last night.

The army bomb disposal team was called to the scene just before 11pm, where they discovered a viable improvised explosive device.

A cordon and road closures were put in place and a number of houses had to be evacuated.
