A man is in a critical condition after sustaining a gun shot wound in south Dublin. The incident happened outside a house at Farrenboley Park in Windy Arbour near Dundrum this afternoon.
A stand-off took place between the man and gardai for almost two hours before ending at 5:20pm.
It is understood his head injury was self-inflicted. He is being treated at St. Vincent's Hospital.
A media blackout was put in place earlier after gardai responded to reports of a man carrying a gun in the area.
Gardai cordoned off a large part of Farrenboley Park and the garda helicopter was also scrambled to the area.
Units from Dublin Fire Brigade were also sent to the scene. Trained negotiators were sent in to speak to the man.
