Gardai are investigating an apparent attempt on the life of John Gilligan in Dublin. The incident happened at a pub on the Navan Road yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the convicted drug dealer had been in another nearby bar at the time.
Gardai have given renewed advice to Mr. Gilligan (61) on his own personal security after what appears to have been an attempt to shoot him.
It is believed he was the intended target of the gunman, who entered the pub and reportedly shouted "Where's Gilligan?".
The incident happened at around 4pm yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the convicted drug dealer - who was released from prison in October - had been in another bar nearby at the time.
The gunman made his getaway on a motorbike in the direction of the Ratoath Road in Finglas.
Gardai in the area pursued him for a time and later recovered a discarded 9 millimetre pistol.
An investigation is underway.
