The Garda Commissioner has described last weekend's shooting of a boy (6) in Dublin as an absolutely appalling crime.
Noirín O'Sullivan's comments come after the child was shot in the neck outside a house in Croftwood Gardens in Ballyfermot on Friday night.
The Commissioner says An Garda Síochána has invested a lot of resources into the ongoing investigation:
Meanwhile, a week after the incident child victim Sean Scully remains in a serious but stable condition at Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.
He is not believed to have been the intended target of the attack.
On Monday, gardaí released a man they were questioning over the incident - it is understood he was questioned on suspicion of withholding information.
Earlier this week the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald and the acting Garda Commissioner held discussions about the incident.
