I've just got my hands on some of the facts and figures regarding the data usage at the Web Summit so far. There has been a total of 5 terabytes of data downloaded over the RDS network since Tuesday. That's the equivalent of downloading 1.25 million iTunes songs or 5,000 HD movies.
As of 1pm today, the number of unique devices connected to the RDS wifi network over the course of the three days stood at 24,097.
I spoke with Guy Johnston, Consultant at the RDS from European Telecommunications Management and Derek Pew, Venue Development Manager at the RDS.
When asked about the WiFi outage on Tuesday Guy explained that it was a minor blip in the server caused by extensive usage. Once the team noticed the outage they worked on repairing it straight away and it was re-patched within 18 minutes.
They team have an impressive breakdown on the number of users, what kind of devices they're using and for what purposes.
10.76% of users are using the WiFi network for file transfer
15.5% for networking
11% for streaming media
52% for web services
The stats also show that the majority of attendees are Apple users. Here are some stats on the users by manufacturer:
Apple - 4,038
Samsung - 516
LG - 359
Sony - 90
