When you realise you've lost something, the brain immediately kicks into overdrive wondering where you last saw it. Was it in the office? At a friend's house? At the pub?

A lot of the time, though, it's public transport where you're liable to leave something behind - whether that's a phone dropping out of your pocket or an umbrella left on the ground. Transport for Ireland points out, as visualised below, that these are indeed some of most common items left on the bus, Luas and train, along with equally 'loseable' items like passports and wallets. We're not sure how buggies rank so highly, mind you - you'd think the baby in their arms would remind parents to pick up the buggy on the way out.

More interesting, though, are the strangest items left behind. Now, we're not sure why or how you'd leave a life size Nile Rodgers (he of Chic / Get Lucky fame) cut out on the bus - guilty abandonment? Alcohol? Extreme absent-mindedness? - but it's definitely an interesting addition to the lost and found section...
