The Indian ambassador to Ireland says he expects to meet with the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore later today to discuss the death of Savita Halappanavar.

The 31-year-old woman died at University College Hospital in Galway last month after contracting septicemia during a miscarriage.

It is reported she was repeatedly refused a medical termination.

The Indian Ambassador to Ireland Debashish Chakravarti says the circumstances of her death is a cause of concern to the Indian government and he hopes steps will be taken to avoid cases like this in the future.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is also to publish the terms of reference of its investigation into the death later today.

"Great human tragedy"

Ambassador Chakravarti told Breakfast here on Newstalk "It"s a great human tragedy, if I may so say".

"We deeply regret that the lady died in circumstances that she died; of course the death of Indian citizens is of course of concern to me and my government".

"We hope that steps would be taken so tyhat it doesn"t happen to any Indian citizen in Ireland again" he added.

A march in solidarity with Savita is being held in Dublin tomorrow afternoon while a candlelit vigil is also being held in Galway.

The case continues to make world headlines.

Yesterday Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore pledged to move quickly to bring legal clarity to the issue of medical termination of pregnancies.

The Tánaiste said it is now time to bring swift legal clarity to the law on abortion.

The Health Minister James Reilly is also to bring the report to Cabinet to decide how to proceed.
