Firefighters from Upper Austria have caused us to go all warm and fuzzy today.

The volunteers from Feldkirchen an der Donau brought a little joy to some Syrian refugee children staying nearby when they decided to help them beat the 36°C heat by bringing their water hoses to the school they are staying in.

At recent EU negotiations to help spread the burden of asylum seekers through Europe, Austria failed to commit to accepting any.

“Austria has become the first target country and deals with 10 times more asylum seekers’ applications than Greece and Italy put together and this cannot be right,” Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said.

Despite that stance, it seems this group of children have had a very refreshing welcome from the community they are staying in.
