Last week in the Supreme Court the genetic mother of twins born to a surrogate lost her legal battle to be declared the children's legal mother on their birth certificate.
One family left disappointed by the judgment are Marie and John McPhilemy, and their daughter Lucy in Co Donegal. Lucy was born via a surrogate.
Lucy is the genetic child of both Marie and John - her Aunt Sharon acted as the birth mother.
Marie says 'Something has to be done' about the lack of legal clarity as she knows other couples with a child by surrogate who are also in legal limbo.
