There is a protest being held outside the Dáil today for parents with Children with Scoliosis at the moment .

14-year old Shauna Franklin has been waiting 14 months on the ‘urgent’ surgery list for scoliosis at ‘Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children’ in Crumlin.

Today, Shauna’s mother Lisa spoke to Jonathan Healy today. She detailed what Shauna's illness entails and what she and her family have gone through while they are waiting on surgery.

Lisa told Jonathan: "Every day, she's in pain, she's tired, she's very withdrawn. She used to be such an outgoing child. When she comes home, she goes into her room and she'll come out for dinner and that's it."

She went on to say how she feels about her daughter and the operation: "Some days I'm angry but most of the time I don't have room for anger because I'm so terrified... because I don't know how this operation is going to turn out."

Jonathan asked what she would say to Minister Varadkar. She replied: "There's 174 children currently waiting for spinal surgery in Ireland. 174 families who are going through exactly what I'm going through.

"He can make all the promises that he likes, he has told us that there is funding there available and he's told us that he's giving money for a new theatre in Crumlin, Children's Hospital and it will be completed in two years.

"Two year is too long. Two months is too long."
