A temperature of 45.8 was recorded at Observatory Hill in the city, just before 3pm local time.

Some areas in the wider region were even hotter with the town of Penrith seeing a scorching 46.5 degrees.

Research from the University of Colorado suggests teachers shold not use the red pen because it can weaken teacher student relations and can be considered threatening and confrontational.

It makes them feel like they are being shouted at and they think they are being marked more harshly.
