It is the fourth month in a row that the number of people accessing homeless services fell.
There were 8,876 people in emergency accommodation last month – down from 9,335 in April.
The figures include 2,787 children and 1,217 families.
The number homeless has dropped for 4th month in a row. New figures show 8876 homeless in May - A welcome drop of 459 from April. Very positive news but next Govt must act urgently to put in place a roadmap out of Covid-19 to keep people safe & build on this progess. pic.twitter.com/KgqRIoeNiV

The Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy said the figures are “encouraging.”
“Significantly there are fewer families in emergency accommodation today than at any point in the last three years,” he said.
“The good work of those in homeless services has continued throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Nevertheless, our entire focus must remain on those who need our help to secure a permanent home.”
Focus Ireland said the drop was “very positive news” but warned that the next Government must act urgently to put in place a roadmap to build on the progress as the country exits lockdown.
