We've all been there – it's the day after the night before when a few social drinks turned in to a few too many.
From fry-ups to fruit and from water to wine, everyone thinks they have the ultimate cure for a hangover, but what has recent research shown these scientists the best cure might actually be? Only the most controversial of them all: the 'hair of the dog'.
Award-winning science journalist Adam Rogers believes more alcohol the morning after a night out is the best way to make a speedy recovery. The author of of Proof: The Science Of Booze, who admits that his findings are ‘hypothetical’, says the main aim of the method is to eliminate poisonous methanol from the body.
And now Lauren Owen, an academic from the Alcohol Hangover Research Group, has come forward to agree with Mr Rogers's findings.
Mr Owen told the UK's Metro newspaper: "Alcohol acts on a number of chemicals in the brain to increase feelings of pleasure. Reduction of hangover symptoms by 'hair of the dog' may also be due to the activity of alcohol on neurotransmitter systems."
While it may seem we now have some scientific research to justify our favourite hangover remedy, it's probably still pretty useless for all of those working the nine-to-five grind.
