Its claimed the Garda Siochana Ombudman Commission is investigating whether an armed Detective was training a rugby team while on duty.
The complaint was made by a member of the public who alleges the Garda was paid to coach the team and made little effort to conceal his firearm while on the training pitch.
It's also alleged the Detective frequently had to leave the training ground in a hurry to attend to Garda business and was once picked up in a squad car.
Irish Examiner Correspondent Mick Clifford says the civilian who made the complaint has also provided photographic and video evidence to GSOC.
