A great-grandmother has been spared a prison sentence after she was caught storing cannabis and drug money at her home in north Dublin.

Julie Nugent (63) of the Maples, Clonshaugh Woods admitted carrying out the crimes but claimed she was "preyed upon by others".

€50,000 worth of cannabis and over €90,000 in cash was found at Julie Nugent's home just a week before Christmas in 2012.

Gardai found slabs of cannabis resin hidden inside her hot press, while the drug money was found in her wardrobe.

After her arrest, she told gardai she thought she thought she would "make a few bob out of it" and said she felt "physically sick" for being so stupid.

Taking her early plea, co-operation with gardai and vulnerability into account - Judge Mary Ellen Ring decided to suspend her four year sentence in full.

Her daughter, Marcia Russell, was also sentenced today for a separate money laundering offence.

She was jailed for 2.5 years after gardai arrested her with €7,000 in cash at another location.
