The President of the Garda Representative Association says it is still their position that former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan was forced out of office.

It is after the interim Fennelly Commission report was published this week, which found the Taoiseach did not sack the Garda Commissioner - but his departure was triggered by a visit from a civil servant acting on Enda Kenny's behalf.

At the GRA's annual conference in April, General Secretary PJ Stone said Martin Callinan was removed from office.

GRA President Dermot O'Brien says they stand by that statement despite the findings of the Fennelly Commission:

Both Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin say they will both be bringing forward motions of no confidence in the Taoiseach Enda Kenny following the publication of the Fennelly report.

They are also calling for the Dáil be reconvened next week.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has said Mr Kenny should immediately resign and call a general election, while Renua's Lucinda Creighton has also said the Taoiseach should put the matter to the electorate.

Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin yesterday defended Enda Kenny and insisted the former Commissioner resigned of his own volition, and says it "was not the intention of the Taoiseach to pressure him to resign."

However, he said Mr Kenny should have kept Eamon Gilmore in the loop.
