The Government has announced details of its €226m Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF) - part of the ‘Rebuilding Ireland’ programme - which includes news of a new DART station.
Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government Simon Coveney has hailed the plan as a great example of "joined-up Government." The National Transport Agency has agreed to fund a new DART Station in Woodbrook/Shanganagh, close to Shankhill in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
€4.15m will be invested in this south Dublin development.
It will also fund a new Dodder Bridge connecting the South Quays and the Poolbeg peninsula (opposite the 3Arena in Dublin) at a cost of €15.75m.
32 more public infrastructure projects across 15 Local Authority areas have also been announced.
Homes
"I fully expect that the announcement today will lead to the delivery of 23,000 housing units by 2021 and an overall figure of over 69,000 housing units in the next ten to fifteen years in areas where the shortage of supply is critical," Mr Coveney added.
"Housing is one of the critical challenges facing our country. That is why I agreed to provide an additional €2.2bn in funding for social housing under Rebuilding Ireland which amounts to 40% of the available additional capital investment to 2021," he continued.
These projects will receive €170m in funding from the Government and an additional €56m from local authorities around the country.
