The mysterious ‘crash’ of July 8th 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico has inspired innumerable books, scientific research, films and TV shows.

The Roswell incident has also been responsible for provoking a huge range of conspiracy theories - some claiming the alleged craft was a UFO, others suggesting a top-secret experimental military craft. Other theories include everything in-between, from weather balloons to a bizarre Soviet plot to terrify unsuspecting American citizens. People have found 'evidence' to back up all sorts of theories, including the infamous 'alien autopsy' video.

While many take the Roswell incident - often heavily linked with Area 51 - very seriously indeed, Google has embraced the lighter side. Their Doodle today is a short interactive game, allowing visitors to the search engine to take control of a crash-landed alien who has to put his ship back together. The game can be found on Google’s homepage.
