Legendary Pictures, the current copyright owners of the King Kong property, have up and moved movie house in Hollywood, taking the upcoming Kong: Skull Island feature from Universal Pictures to Warner Brothers.

Warner Brothers are already housing the Godzilla franchise, and with this new addition of the giant ape, there is talk that Warners is looking to set up a monster movie universe.

Legendary and Warner Bros. are already working together on the Pacific Rim series, with that franchise's director Guillermo Del Toro hinting that Godzilla may make an appearance in Pacific Rim 3.

Kong: Skull Island is rumoured to be a modern-day reboot of the classic monster movie and will star Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly and Samuel L Jackson, and is due to arrive in cinemas on March 10th 2017. Godzilla 2 is still in pre-production, as director Gareth Edwards is currently working on Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, but the giant lizard sequel is set for release on June 8th 2018.
