More than 130 locations nationwide will host a GOAL Mile this year
Every family has their Christmas traditions and for many, this includes getting out and walking, jogging or running a mile every year in aid of GOAL. Now in its 37th year, the fundraiser attracts tens of thousands of participants every year who are all raising vital funds and awareness to combat global hunger through GOAL’s programmes in the developing world.
This year, there will be GOAL Miles held at more than130 locations nationwide over the Christmas and New Year period. From Spiddal to Santry and all over Ireland, you can find your local GOAL Mile here.
You can register online in advance to receive your own GOAL Mile t-shirt but everyone is welcome on the day, even if they haven’t registered in advance. Just grab the family and head to your nearest GOAL Mile and donate what you can.
If you happen to work in Cherrywood and EastPoint business parks, there will be a special pre-Christmas GOAL Mile taking place on December 19th as well.
Speaking about the initiative, GOAL CEO, Siobhan Walsh, says:
“The GOAL Mile event has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 1982. Over the past three-and-a-half decades, it has become an integral part of Christmas for thousands of families.”
“We are so thankful to all our organisers and participants throughout the country. Without their continued support, we know that these events simply would not happen, and people would not have the opportunity to take part and contribute towards our work.”
In 2018, more than 50,000 people took part in the GOAL Miles over the Christmas period, raising more than €200,000. This year, all of the funds that are raised will be going towards GOAL’s most pressing work in the developing world. The agency is currently responding to protracted and sudden onset emergencies in Syria, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zimbabwe and several other locations.
So, if you fancy getting some extra steps in for a good cause this Christmas, you know what to do. Head on over to GoalMile.org and register today!
