Global med-tech company BD Medical Systems has announced the creation of 100 new jobs in Drogheda.

The new jobs come after the company invested €62m in its Drogheda production facility.

The investment is aimed at expanding the company’s production of BD PosiFlush syringes.

The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said the expansion will be a “real boost for the local community” in Drogheda.

“Some €62million is being invested, with help from the Government through the IDA,” he said.

“100 new jobs are being created and the fact that half of the posts have already been filled is a testament to the rich talent pool that is available in Drogheda. I wish the team the very best of luck with their growth plans.”

The 30,000sq ft facility has already begun production with 50 of the new jobs now filled.

The other 50 will be filled over the next two years as production reaches full capacity.

The company is looking for skill sets including engineering, production, machine operations, logistics, management and administration.

BD Medical Site Director in Drogheda Liam Dillon said the investment reflects BD’s commitment to its employees and the local community.

“We currently employ over 240 associates (staff) at the plant,” he said.

“Many are the second generation of family members joining the company. We see this expansion as a commitment to the local economy in Drogheda and surrounding areas.”

BD has been in production on the Donore Road in Drogheda since 1964 – producing billions of syringes and other medical devices in the years since.

The company has invested a total of €130m in its Drogheda plant in the past five years.
