The Tanaiste says the government will not decide whether to tax child benefit in the Budget until the Cabinet discusses the matter later this year.

Eamon Gilmore was responding to comments made by the Social Protection Minister Joan Burton who told a newspaper that she is considering means-testing child benefit for people who earn €100,000 or more.

But the Tanaiste has said the government will not make a final decision on the matter until later this year.
