The bodies of seven babies have been found in a flat in southern Germany.
A woman found the body of one infant on Thursday afternoon at the property in the Bavarian town of Wallenfels, near the Czech border, police said.
She called the police emergency number and officers found several more bodies in a room in the flat.
The were found covered in blankets and packed in plastic bags.
The bodies are being examined by forensic experts but this "will take some time in view of their poor condition, in some cases", police said.
The results of the tests are not expected before the beginning of next week.
It is not clear how long the babies had been dead, how long they were in the apartment, or who was living there at the time of the discovery.
Several people are being questioned by police - although a 45-year-old woman who previously lived at the property has not been located.
