The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and President Michael D Higgins are expected to be among the mourners at the service today.

The funeral cortege will leave Howth at 11am - travelling through the village heading towards the Clontarf Road, along Amiens Street and over the quays.

It will then take in O'Connell Street - making its way to St Mary's Pro Cathedral for funeral mass at 11.45.

Members of the public who are planning to attend are being advised that access to the Pro-Cathedral is reserved for Mr Byrne's family and friends.

They have asked that instead of flowers, anyone who wishes to should make a donation to the Irish Cancer Society and St Francis Hospice in his name.

The former Late Late show host will be laid to rest at St Fintan's cemetery in Sutton this afternoon.
