A new video released by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) shows two officers being threatened by a suspect.

The piece was shot from inside a patrol car, and shows an unnamed suspect threatening both gardaí and their families.

The suspect and his father are being transported to a garda station in the clip.

The video, which lasts just over two minutes, hears the gardaí subjected to verbal abuse and threats aginst their wives and children.

The video has been published to coincide with the AGSI annual conference, which is being held in Westport Co Mayo.

Members of the association are calling for body cameras to be issued to all garda members.

The conference has also heard gardaí are 10-times more likely to be injured than the average worker.

"Guard or not I'll f?!king rope the head off you in the back of this car and you can bate me to death if you want", the suspect tells the guards in the video.

"Bust me head, I love to see blood - go on, I want to taste blood", he continues.

"I'll find out where your wife lives, your kids, and do you know what I'll do? I'll ride them".

Asked directly by a guard if he was threatening his family, the suspect replied: "I am".
