Gardaí are investigating whether yesterday’s murder in west Dublin was linked to an argument at a party earlier in the night.

He no known links to any criminality and investigators have yet to establish a motive for the shooting.

A post-mortem was carried out yesterday by State Pathologist Margot Bolster with results expected today.

It is believed Mr Tormey’s wife and two children were in the house when he was attacked.

Maura, one of the family’s neighbours, said the news is “horrible” for everyone who lives there.

“I couldn’t believe it because we never had any bother like that here before – never, never,” she said.

“It is really disgusting really and it is giving the area an awful name that it doesn’t deserve”.

Local People Before Profit Councillor Hazel de Nortúin says anyone with any information on the shooting should contact Gardaí.

“If anybody does have information they should come forward,” she said.

“Nobody should get away with any sort of behaviour like this within our community. There is somebody left today without a husband, without a father or without a friend and I think it is absolutely shocking that this could happen and it definitely won’t go unchallenged within the community.

“If anybody does have any information, they should step forward and give anything they can.”

Gardaí are conducting door-to-door enquiries and continuing to appeal for information.

They are particularly interested in talking to people who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage.
