A murder inquiry has been launched following the stabbing of a Cork woman in her home this morning.
60-year-old Marian Horgan received fatal injuries in an incident in her Montenotte home - while her husband 67-year-old Billy Horgan was seriously injured.
Gardai have confirmed that they have launched a murder investigation, following the completion of a post mortem examination.
Gardai are continuing to question a 25-year-old man who was arrested at the scene, and have begun door to door inquiries in the estate.
It happened in Montenotte this morning. The house on Murmount Avenue remains sealed off.
Neighbours have described a chaotic scene in the aftermath of the stabbing.
A full forensic examination of the house is due to take place.
