A Garda search operation targeting the activities of dissident Republicans in Co Louth has ended.

On Friday they discovered "a substantial quantity" of ammunition, along with a suspected mortar tube.

The operation was carried out on lands near Omeath on the Cooley Peninsula.

It was led by members of the Garda Special Detective and Emergency Response Units.

However Gardaí earlier said no arrests had been made.

The operation was part of ongoing investigations targeting the activities of dissident Republican groups.

Gardaí have said they will not be providing any further information "due to operational reasons".
