Gardaí have renewed an appeal for information on the murder of 17-year-old Raonaid Murray.

Today, September 4th, marks the 16th anniversary of Ms Murray's death.

Raonaid was working at a clothes shop, then known as Sally West, in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre. She left the store at around 9pm on the night of September 3rd 1999, and went with a friend to Scott's Public House in the town.

After making arrangements with a friend to head to night club later that night, Raoinid left the pub at around 11.20pm to go home and change.

Her body was discovered at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at around 12.33am on Saturday morning, less than 500 yards from her home.

An Incident Room remains in situ at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Dolan spoke to Newstalk Lunchtime today about the case:

"The family of Raonaid are still grieving as much as they ever have been," Supt Dolan said.

"This appeal surrounds two questions - crucial aspects of this investigation need to be answered," he explained. "One is why was Raonaid Murray, a 17-year-old teenager, murdered, and secondly, who murdered her?"

Supt Dolan said gardaí believe that somebody has vital information. The person or people may think that their information is insignificant, but he stresses that it could be of vital importance to the investigation.

"Somebody may be unwittingly shielding a killer," he said.

Supt Kevin Dolan stressed that, "Graham Dwyer is not a suspect in this case," referring to speculation that Mr Dwyer may have been looked at by gardaí as part of the investigation.

Anybody with information about the case is being asked to contact the Garda Incident Room at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station at 01-666-5000 or 01-666-5012. Alternatively they can contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any Garda station.
