The death of a 54-year-old woman who was injured in Cavan town earlier today is not being treated as suspicious, gardaí have confirmed. 

The woman died after receiving serious head injuries in an incident outside an apartment at Kempton Court.

Officers attended the scene at around 6.35am and the woman was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. 

Her body was then removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí said this afternoon that they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

It was deemed not to be suspicious after a postmortem examination concluded this evening.

A file is being prepared for the coroner’s office.
