The Acting Garda Commissioner says the gangland drama Love Hate is a 'very very good show' that is very positive for the Irish television industry.

Noirín O'Sullivan says there has been no request by a serving garda to play a part in the final series of the programme.

Last series Garda Kieran O'Reilly - who was a serving officer in the National Drugs Unit and had done undercover work for six years - appeared in the show as Garda Ciaran Madden.

But senior officers were concerned that his role was too close to his real-life work and he has since been transferred to the Garda National Immigration Bureau.

Garda O'Reilly is not understood to have breached any of the organisation's rules and took part in filming while on holiday leave.

"I didn't know there was a final series" joked the Acting Commissioner today. But she warned there are 'very comprehensive policies' surrounding the activities that members of the force can engage in.

"I'm not aware that any member has been asked but I don't think it is fair to comment on any specific member" Noirín O'Sullivan told reporters.

Asked if she watched the show, she replied "I was going to say can I get a role in it, no I'm joking". She also declared "that's a secret" when asked who her favourite character was - Nidge or Fran?
